100% Autopilot Affiliate Marketing

In today’s blog post I am going to reveal a few things most Internet Marketers will never discuss, I’m going to show you some real time stats from a promo I ran on complete autopilot while I was on vacation, including clicks and sales. I am also going to reveal something that I know may make you feel you were ‘tricked’ in some sort of way, especially if you were one of the people who responded to last weeks emails telling me to stop marketing while I was on vacation. However, you have to understand I am revealing this information to educate you.

The problem was Dave Nicholson and Daniel Sumner were re-launching PLR Monthly and had a fantastic offer running while I was away and I knew I had to promote this offer for 2 reasons.

  1. The offer was unbelievable value
  2. I knew I’d make a ton of money promoting it (just being honest)

So I knew I had to promote. However, if I had taken my laptop on vacation with me my good lady Tania would not have been very pleased, after all this was our annual vacation to Benidorm in Spain and there is no way she would let me near a computer as she wanted to have me to herself for a week without the usual distractions my online business presents. In fact I was only just allowed to check my stats from time to time on on my iPhone and that was after some heated discussions :-)

You see, the truth is I didn’t touch a computer while I was away, all the messages were pre-loaded into Aweber and there were 4 messages queued in total. This meant I didn’t have to touch a thing while I was away, so if you thought I was actually writing the emails while I was away I wasn’t, I wrote them all before I left. I’m sorry if this may seem like I cheated as I was discussing a vacation I hadn’t even started but I had this blog post planned and wanted to show you that we can plan our promos and make money on complete autopilot. Plus I did get sunburned, had a few hangovers and spent most of my time by the pool :-)

And here are the results of this promo. The only dates that really matter are from the 6th to the 14th while I was away.

That’s almost 90 sales and over $2600 in affiliate commissions and most of that is recurring. Not bad considering I was soaking up the sun most of the time.

So never forget that even though things happen in our lives that can prevent us being near a PC we can still market and make money while we are offline.

Aweber can be pre-loaded and you can even schedule blog posts with wordpress as well as set up autoresponder campaigns that can go out at pre-determined times as soon as someone signs up for one of your lists. Why Business Partners Can Make All the Difference

Greetings Fellow Internet Marketers,

A couple of years ago I successfully completed John’s Marketing Masterclass and became a product vendor in my own right. Understandably I was excited & very pleased with myself at having my first product for sale over at Clickbank, so I merrily went about my business with John’s last words to me ringing in my ears…’go ahead and rinse and repeat’… John was talking about everything I’d learned over the previous 36-weeks.

So off I went and did just that. I set about creating more products and I now have several products for sale online. Happy Dances all round, or so I thought, but something was missing – and at first I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.

As we all know Internet Marketing is one of those things that not everyone gets…and maybe your spouse gets a little fed up with you being at your laptop working away on all those ‘get rich quick schemes’…sound familiar? So when the successes come along who can you ‘really’ celebrate with?

After a while it dawned on me that I needed to work as part of a Team, to share the workload, share the profits and share the successes! And at first thoughts you may think to yourself that you can do all the work and prefer to keep all the profits to yourself. But let me ask you, would you rather have 100% of a little pot of money or a smaller percentage of a much bigger pot of money?…easy answer, right!

I spend a lot of my time working online in the Golf Niche and having looked around at all the products that are available I knew I needed to create something really special to have a chance of tapping into the hungry buyers that are in the golf market. I figured the best way to do this would be to get a golf expert on board, so I did some research and approached Richard Lawless, a PGA Professional Golf Coach, I explained to him what Internet Marketing was all about and how I was going to make him very wealthy.

He came on board, we set up a Website called Weekend Golfers and then created our first video coaching product called Drive For Show. (www.driveforshow.info)

So we now have a quality product…but as we all know sales don’t just happen.

Next team member on my list was an expert at Affiliate Marketing, or rather an expert at ‘Marketing to Affiliates’ someone who knows how to set up all the affiliate resources and make our proposition so attractive that the Super Affiliates would come looking. Enter Gary Caine. Gary is now the Affiliate Manager at Weekend Golfers.

Gary’s prime goal is to get more Team Members on board in the shape of Affiliates. These are perhaps the most important team members you can have…and the one’s that can really boost your online business. By making as many affiliate resources available as possible, the aim is to make the Affiliate’s job as easy as possible to sell our product for us. Helping them make more sales which in turn will obviously make us more sales.

During this team building process I have learned a great deal about sharing tasks and letting people with better skills do the jobs where I was lacking. The end result is a much better product and a team of people sharing a common goal. Since I made this decision I haven’t looked back and my online efforts have gone from ‘ok’ to me being very excited about the future.

I love being an Internet Marketer

I have just returned from a week long vacation cruising the Norfolk Broads, this has been the most relaxing time I have ever had and I can highly recommend it. Every day was a different day and some were spent fishing, some were spent walking, some eating and drinking (a lot) in some fine country pubs and wonderful outdoor locations, but most of the time was spend doing absolutely nothing. As I was on a boat cruising around a rural area my phone and Internet connection was extremely weak and usually none existent but my business still thrived while I was away. In fact as I had support taken care of I didn’t have to do a thing.

While I was doing things like this:

In fact while I was relaxing and having a great time my business brought in over $10,000 and that was with no email promo’s or product launches or other forms of advertising going on. I could have set up a few email promo’s to go out while I was away and earned even more but that was the last thing on my mind. It’s a dream lifestyle and I still have to pinch myself sometimes as I really am living the dream. I want to stress I am not trying to show off here, I just want to point out that this is a lifestyle anyone can live. Yes, anyone! Just a few years ago I was working in a factory so if I can do it anyone can.

So how did I earn the figures above?

I earned it by selling information. I have said many many times that creating and selling your own information products is the key to your success. Once you learn how to create an information product that sells it’s just a case of duplicating what you have learned to create even more products. I am not going to deny it takes hard work at first but once you get things going it becomes easier as your business grows.

In fact I found it extremely hard in the early days as I had no one to turn to and had to learn things the hard way. I struggled for about 3 years before things started to happen but because of this I know what it takes to build a profitable online business and that puts me in an incredible position to teach others how I have achieved my success. I’ve Been Suffering From Promo Overload

This blog post is sort of hard to write but I feel I must say what needs to be said so you don’t fall into the same trap I did.

Over the last few months I’ve been suffering from ‘promo overload’ (I just made that name up) and the result of this has been far to many ‘promo’ emails sent to my subscribers. I feel I must warn you about falling into the same trap I fell into as you will kill your business, luckily I have spotted what I was doing wrong and I hope I can prevent you doing the same thing.

The trap is taking on too many promotions and JV requests in the hope that you will receive a ton of promotions in return. I have learned the hard way it’s simply not the way to operate online. Not only does your list become far less responsive but you actually end up promoting some products you may not normally promote. Now don’t get me wrong here, I make sure to review every single product I promote but let’s say some have been ‘borderline’ in the quality department.

However, the biggest mistake I made this year was simply saying ‘yes’ to too many JV requests. When you send promo after promo to your subscribers they lose faith in you, they unsubscribe and your list becomes less responsive. The result of this was some of my emails had a click-through rate of as little as 500 clicks when it wasn’t unusual to previously get 3000+ clicks from a single email.

On top of that it actually got so bad I was struggling to find time to promote my own products, how crazy is that?

I only have myself to blame for this but as of today it’s going to stop. Yes I will continue to promote products but I will be a lot more strict in the selection process, also I’d much rather send 4-5 emails in one week about one product educating my subscribers than sending 4-5 emails promoting 4-5 different products. Not only does this p**s off your subscribers but you earn far less as an affiliate. So from now on while I may mail out 4-5 times when I see a product I truly believe in I wont be doing so many random cold emails.

If you are reading this and are finding it hard to say no to JV requests have a long hard think about what damage you could be doing not only to your reputation as a marketer but to your subscribers by promoting sub-standard products on a daily basis. You are far better off getting behind a product you truly believe will help your subscribers than randomly promoting a ton of different products. Don’t become a marketer who promotes sub standard crap every other day like everyone else, become a marketer who cares about your subscribers needs as in the long run this is the kind of marketer that becomes successful.

That’s the type of marketer I always have been, maybe I lost my way a little over the last few months but as of today that stops. From now on quality will come before any favor I owe anyone and my valuable subscribers needs will come first.

Is It Really Free?

As you know over the last couple of days I have been promoting Internet Selling For Newbies and yesterday I asked if you thought Omar was right about the rant he had when someone said the offer wasn’t free because he had to pay shipping to have the product delivered to his home. I have posted that email here just in case you missed it.

I received a ton of responses and this prompted me to contact Omar to see if he would mind me writing up a blog post about this. Omar then got back to me with the response below.

Hi John,

Here are my thoughts…

We have all been burned at one time or another by some sort of ”hidden charge” or fine print forced continuity option thingy.

We get very angry, we feel deceived, we feel robbed. In reality the truth of the matter is that most times we simply failed to read carefully. I am no exception to this, it has happened to me several times before. We always see those legal links at the bottom of pages and the “click here to agree” radio buttons but we do act impulsively without taking the time to examine the offer.

Then a month later we see a second charge and NOW we yell ”bloody murder”. It’s happened to us all, myself included.

Many marketers out there know that most people just don’t read the page carefully. Bad marketers take advantage of that fact and they impose “silent add on’s” to orders that are easily overlooked by the consumer who’s just excited about getting his/her new product.

Over the past couple of years we’ve seen a lot of this in our Internet Marketing community. Marketers use all sorts of merchant accounts that require consumers to enter their credit card details directly into the website they are purchasing from.

This puts the marketer in a unique vantage point. Once he/she stores that data. Billing, re-billing and the like can be easily tagged on to a checkout process known as a “session id”.

The methods of marketing we use today of upsells, downsells, add on options, suggested products and the like… works very well. These methods are used by companies, like Amazon, eBay, Walmart and many other commerce giants. They are not illegal or unethical in any way.

However – these prudent methods have been tarnished by  unethical marketers and hence our subscribers are now very skeptical when they see more than one offer on a website.  They say… “Ohh No – he’s trying to sell me something else, quick -get off this site!” LOL

That’s like going to McDonalds and canceling your order all together simply because the cashiers asks if you’d like to add a Large soda for 39 cents extra, or if you’d like to super-size your order.  Why are we perfectly comfortable with those upsells but not those we see on websites?

In my opinion the answer is this…  FEAR.  We have been burned in the past and we are afraid of making a bad decision that can’t be easily undone. You see, if they screw up my order at McDonalds I can just walk right up to the counter and tell them to get it right or demand my money back. But online, you have to send emails, create support tickets and hope to hear back from a human.

The fear of re-living this experience precludes us from taking the actions we want to with regards of purchasing a product online. I totally understand that fear, I have experienced it myself and I will not criticize anyone for it.

My rant was about a selfish person that wanted me to do everything for him. He was looking for a hand out not a head start. He wasn’t willing to invest in shipping and he implied that I am a bad marketer because I wouldn’t pay it for him. It is a mentality that I will never agree with. But the “forced continuity fear” is something all together different and it is something that I do completely resonate with.

#4 The customer has to review and approve their order items a total of FOUR times in the checkout process. Twice on our site and twice on their PayPal account page. Each time their entire order is listed and they can remove anything they may have “accidentally” selected.

Noticed I put “accidentally” in quotes.. I’m not being facetious but we all know that there are many consumers that will intentionally order things and later claim they were scammed. The axe swings both ways.

In conclusion I will call upon everyone to always read the contents of any offer before you make a purchase. That is just good, prudent business sense. We make it easy and we even  encourage you to contact us before you make a purchase if something appears unclear. Last but not least we make it easy for YOU to control the outcome by using the worlds most trusted payment system as an added layer of protection and security, PayPal.
