Just a few days ago I completed John Thornhill’s “One Month Mentor” course, and I must confess to being so grateful to John for creating this course, that I felt I just had to put this appreciation into words.

At the risk of boring you stiff, my story is very much the same as a lot of would-be internet marketers. I have been online, trying to make money, in one form or another, for well over ten years. In that time I have spent tens of thousands of dollars trying to find that secret as to how it is done. I have put my family into financial difficulties twice, but we won’t go into that in too much detail.

You see, I am in my mid-sixties. My wife should have retired in 2007, but she is still working. I should have retired in 2010, but I am still working. To put it bluntly, time is running out. I don’t want to retire into poverty, relying on our pensions, but unless I can generate extra money online, that is the route we are destined to take. (OK, sob story over!)

Over the time that I have been online, I have come to realise that the only route to reliable earnings has to be via something that you have complete control over – your own product in other words. Also, if that product could generate a recurring income, so much the better.

Even though I realised this fact some time ago, I never considered that I had the capability to produce my own product. Many of the so-called gurus will tell you that it is a very expensive and time consuming route to take, and I believed them.

At the beginning of 2011 I had an idea for a membership site, but that is how it stayed – just an idea. I knew what to do and I owned the software to do it, but I was thwarted by a lack of self-confidence, so nothing happened.

Then, in the middle of February, John Thornhill announced his One Month Mentor program. I couldn’t really afford the cost of the course, so no matter how much I wanted to enrol, it was out of the question. Then John announced a payment plan, and I was hooked!

I must confess that I found the first few days of the course a little mundane as John was teaching things that I have been doing for years, but once we got past that point, everything became very pertinent to my situation.

To cut a long story short, John’s coaching has enabled me to generate my own product, an eBook, something which I was not able to do before the course. I have also gained the confidence to allow that product to extend into a membership site which, once again I was unable to do previous to taking the course.

John has a very natural style to his teaching, covering everything in videos as well as providing worksheets for days where they are felt to be advantageous. All points are covered in detail, making the course suitable for beginners right up to the intermediate stage of marketer.

I now feel confident that the future for me will be a lot more positive, and that what I have created once, I can repeat in the future. Rather than providing a fish, John Thornhill has taught me how to catch the fish.

I can honestly recommend that anyone who wants to take this proven route into Internet Marketing takes a very close look at John’s program. Who knows, perhaps it will be you writing up your own case study in a couple of months time.

Maybe the expert copywriters can take some of the blame for the internet marketing sales letters which promise the earth for hardly any work, or perhaps the latest so called ‘loop hole’ which claims that Google have over looked a simple trick which will mean that you can start from scratch and earn a few thousand dollars before breakfast, again without doing any work!

You and I both know that this is not the case, whilst it is perfectly possible to earn a few thousand before breakfast if you have your own product, or your own list for example, guess what? You have to put the work in to get to that stage in the first place!

If you are prepared to work, and work hard, it is worth considering offering your services as a freelance writer. You may just be looking to earn some money online for the first time or you might be looking to build up a business which you can profit from over the months and years ahead, but one thing is for sure, there is plenty of money to be made and whilst you will have to work, it is straightforward and easy work, and you may be surprised by how quickly you can get started, in fact would it surprise you to learn that you could be earning a couple of hundred dollars a day within a couple of weeks!

Before I go any further let’s get one thing straight, many people are under the impression that writing for a living is nothing more than slave labour, with non English speaking writers charging no more than $1 per 100 words, how an earth is it possible to make money? Well, with no disrespect to these writers, for many of them it is extremely difficult to write English in a flowing and informative way which means that there is even more demand for English speaking writers so, if English is your first language and you are able to write to a basic standard, you will find that there is more work out there than you could possibly handle which will enable you to basically earn as much as you want.

As an example, let’s say that you charge $15 for a basic 500 word article. Many businesses will be happy to pay this amount and let’s say that you decide to write 10 articles per day. Get up nice and early, start at 6am and you will be finished by lunchtime. There won’t be any time for procrastination, no checking your emails every 5 minutes or logging into facebook, just good old fashioned work but at the end of it you will have made $150, not bad for a mornings work. In the afternoon you could simply relax or perhaps spend a couple of hours on a project that will make you even more money, a few pages of your latest ebook for instance, the choice really is yours.

At this stage you may be saying to yourself, ‘that all sounds well and good but where do I find all of this work?’ There are many options open to you but I swear by using the biggest outsourcing website of them all, Elance.com. If you are not familiar with Elance.com, the way it works is that businesses and individuals post a description of the work that they require, and you, as a provider, give a price that you will carry out the work for. The client pays the money into the Elance escrow account and when you have completed the work, the money is released to you.

To start with, you should be looking at winning around 10% of the jobs that you bid on. Place 100 bids and you should be looking at 10 writing jobs, at  $200 per job you will earn around $2000. If you are desperate for money you could complete that amount in a week, hard work comes into it again as you will have to roll your sleeves up and get stuck in, but then again, working in a hot, fume filled factory for 12 hour shifts is also hard work, that is what I used to do and I know which method of making money I prefer, do you?

You may remember this blog post I made at the start of 2011, we all start the year with high expectations don’t we? Well I have decided to give you an update on my progress so far this year. Hopefully you’ll be able to relate to some of this and it may help you move forward. Also, as I make myself accountable to you it may help me to keep going.

Here’s some of the things I said I’d be focusing on in 2011.

Webinars.

I promised myself I’d do more webinars as it’s something I don’t do much. I started doing private weekly webinars with my Partnership to Success students in January and I must say this is something I enjoy tremendously. I also plan to start doing some free content packed webinars for all of my subscribers so watch this space.

eBay.

I said I planned to be highly active on eBay, that is still planned and I’m hoping to get back on eBay in the next 6 weeks. I haven’t sold a thing on eBay so far this year but I am still a Top Rated Seller so hopefully if I move fast I’ll be able to keep my Top Rated Seller Status. Once again I’ll keep you posted.

Article Marketing.

I’m still doing a ton of article marketing, you can check out the articles I have submitted here. I aim to keep this up but as this is something I 100% outsource now the workload has not increased.

Product Updates.

I still haven’t performed any product updates yet but ninetydaypowerseller.com is about to have a major overhaul to bring it right up to date, I have acquired the domain yourownebookbusiness.com and that’s what the new product will be released as, again watch this space.

Product Creation.

I said I’d release a record amount of info product this year and this will happen. I have already released my Partnership to Success Program, One Month Mentor and as of today The Affiliate Masterplan. Thats one per month so far this year. There are 2 more products in the pipeline that should be released in the next 6 weeks, although with one I am a silent partner so my name wont be on the sales page. (I’ll explain more about this later in the year)

List Building.

I said I’d be focusing more on list building, I still need to ramp this up but at the same time I still generate 100+ subscribers most days from all of my products and this blog, the plan is to at least double that intake by the end of the year and most of this will come from releasing more products.

Expand the business.

My plans to expand the business are well on track. I have 5 employees now and this may grow before the year is up. I have learned to outsource more thus giving me time to do what I do best and that is create more products.

Help a record amount of people quit their jobs in 2011.

The One Month Mentor program that started on March 1st is coming to an end and I will start to receive feedback over the next few days. I really think this program will help a record number of people this year and I aim to relaunch it very soon once I get some feedback. More to follow.

I hear you’re saying: “but Matt, no one will promote for me even if I offer 75% percent commission!”

Well, yeah, it is a little problem. But only a little and I will show you how to solve that in the next few minutes.

So, how to get others to promote for you?

It is actually dirty simple… Lots of people complicate this process. All what you need is to set up an affiliate program. Just create an information product and put it on Clickbank. Creating product is even simpler than getting traffic… just prepare some PowerPoint slides, plug in you microphone for a couple of hours and you have a product!

It is way more easier than it actually looks like.

Use Incentives to get affiliates to say “yes”

It is absolutely crucial to use some kind of incentives to get affiliates to say “yes”. They are no longer impressed by 50% or 75% commission, sometimes even 100%!

So you have to offer some kind of incentives. You can offer them to write 5 exclusive 600 words articles, make 4h of video content, do something technical like approving blog comments, moderating their forum, creating graphics.

You get the idea, offer what they need

I suggest you to do a research every time before offering something, because everyone is different. One person may need video content for their membership site, other may need some great articles for their blog and so on..

First of all, build relationships

Before you contact potential affiliates, build relationships with them. You can do this by commenting on their blog, writing a guest post, doing an interview (it is one of the most powerful strategies to build relationships that I know), or even go to their live seminars. Promoting their products helps as well.

If you do this right, you will have a much more bigger chance to get them to say “yes”

Always think what’s in it for them

Never contact them if you don’t mention what’s in it for them. And don’t say what’s in it for you, they don’t care about that. This point is crucial.

Ultra sneaky trick which generates 30,000 visitors

Prepare to be blown away! I have some amazing content to share with you… Okay, so the trick is:
First of all build relationship with a marketer who may launch a new product (and get a lot of traffic). Then, offer to do everything for the launch (write sales letter, order graphics, create a freebie, upload everything, install a shopping cart etc…) in exchange of putting your banner on the product’s thank you page and exit pop up!

This is extremely powerful and I’ve seen nobody doing this. It is such an amazing tactic that… I can’t tell you how excited I am about it (but the person who is launching a product needs to trust you)!

Crazy idea – don’t ask for a broadcast, try to get traffic passively!

Lots of people try to launch their products and ask for broadcasts. However, people are more interested in promoting evergreen products. And the fact is, it’s much easier to get them to put your banner on their thank you pages or blog than to get a broadcast sent.

In fact, you will get more traffic and you will get that traffic consistently! Not many people do this, so I suggest you to take advantage of this strategy!

Pick up a low handing fruit!

Don’t ask to promote you if they are well known. It is really hard to get them to promote for you, unless you build deep relationships with them.

Aim for people that aren’t recognized, but can drive quite a lot of traffic. Believe me, it is way more effective.

Digital eBooks are overtaking regular eBooks in terms of sales on Amazon so if you are not getting into this you are missing out big time.

After some of the rubbish that was pushed in 2010 people are getting sick of crap offers and hypey marketing. Market in an honest and ethical way and you will stand more chance of success, you should also be able to sleep better at night knowing you are not taking part in marketing that damages peoples lives.

As you probably know last year I wrote a few blog posts about poor quality products getting launched and the general state of the Internet Marketing industry.

Well you probably don’t need me to tell you a large percentage of this industry is full of marketers who don’t care one bit about your welfare and only see you as a cash cow. They may claim to have your best interests at heart but the truth is all they want to do is pitch product after product to you and most of the time they haven’t even checked out the product they are promoting.

Do you know I have been invited to promote a ton of products over the last few months and in a lot of instances the product creators didn’t even tell their affiliates what the product actually did. All they seemed to talk about was the prizes I could win and the commissions on offer from all the upsells and how much they have paid a top copywriter to have their sales page created.

Hmm, maybe they should also be concentrating on creating a quality product.

Anyway, when writing about these tactics a few times I was asked to name the products in question but it’s not really my style, I was merely talking about the tactics used and how it is damaging for affiliates to promote bad products.

But I suppose that doesn’t stop you getting sucked in does it?

Until now!

I want you to imagine this scenario.

You have just opened an email from a marketer who has just found a product that is going to make you a ton of money for clicking on your mouse a few times. He loves the product so much he urges you to check it out right away. He tells you that you simply have to get this ‘before it’s sold out’.

So you go to the sales page and you are mesmerised by the screenshots of ClickBank earnings and how easy it is for you to do the same. You keep reading and all the time this product sounds like it’s just what you need. You get to the buy button and although you are tempted to buy what looks like an amazing product something is niggling away in the back of your mind. “What does this product actually do?” Surely there must be some explanation somewhere on the sales page so you look again only to find there is only information on ‘what it’s not’, but you still have the urge to check out this latest and greatest product, this is the one, you simply have to have it.

So you think of hitting the buy button….

STOP RIGHT THERE!

Anytime you find yourself hitting the buy button and you don’t really know what you’re buying do yourself a favour and go to the Product Reviews and Ratings Section of The Warrior Forum. Do a search for the latest shiny object that is going to make you rich and the chances are someone will have already started a thread about the product and you will get an unbiased opinion. This is because affiliate links aren’t allowed. If you don’t see a thread about the product in question then start one and before long you will have a few replies.

This may help save your hard earned cash and more importantly your time getting wasted.

Oh, and if you find a product promoted to you is the biggest pile of rip off trash you’ve ever seen then you know what to to with the email you received from the marketer telling you that this is the latest and greatest thing ever seen don’t you?

Today is my first day back in the office after the holidays and let me tell you I’m glad to get back to work. As usual I’ve over indulged and it’s good to get back to normal.

2010 was a sort of quiet year for me but it finished with a bang with the launch of Affiliate Promo Formula and my last ever 72 Hours of Madness Auction. Both were big successes and I intend to start January where I left off in December and that’s with a bang and in the famous words of a famous animated gentleman take my business to infinity and beyond. Here’s some of the things I’ll be focusing on in 2011.

Webinars.

I have my first Affiliate Alliance webinar on Thursday that I’m nervously looking forward to, webinars are not something I do much but I knew I had to step this up and that’s why I have committed myself to 1 webinar per month for the Affiliate Alliance. Sometimes forcing yourself to do something is the only way to get it done and I know I can’t let the Alliance members down so that’s one way of getting things done. Will I be nervous? Yes. Will I enjoy it? Probably. Will it help my business move forward? Most definitely.

eBay.

I must admit in 2010 I was very quiet on eBay, I still managed to achieve top rated seller status and had a few very successful auctions. However I was not selling permanently on eBay, that is going to change in 2011 as I aim to become highly active on eBay again.

Article Marketing.

You probably don’t know this but I have been using article marketing in my business since 2005. I have been doing a lot of experimenting over the last few months by getting my 2 sons to create huge amounts of content. Article marketing is one of the best ways to drive free targeted traffic to your products and services and if done right is just as effective today as it always has been. If anyone tells you Article Marketing doesn’t work take no notice, I’ve been doing it for 6 years and let me tell you it does.

Product Updates.

I have a few products that need to be brought up to date in 2011, this included Resale Rights Blueprint and ninetydaypowerseller.com as well as Mentorship Monthly (How bad do those graphics look now?) so I will be updating and relaunching quite a few products in 2011.

Product Creation.

I’ve always said the key to becoming a success is to create and sell your own information products and that will never change. The way to make real money online is to become an information product seller more than an information product buyer and I plan to release a record number of products this year. Do I still buy a lot of information products? Yes, but I also sell a lot too and this leads to…

List Building.

List building is the number one thing you need to be doing in your online business, every day you are not building your list is another day wasted. I will be concentrating on using existing methods to build my list but my plan is to become an extremely aggressive list builder in 2011. I’ll be revealing more on this later in the year. (Hint, it ties in with article marketing & webinars)

Expand the business.

My main plans for 2011 are to expand the business and my team, you may not know this but I have 3 staff, one virtual and 2 in house. Some of you may know Paula who handles my support, that wont change as Paula does a fantastic job and helps me provide the best support possible. I also employ my 2 sons Jamie and Alex. Alex handles calls to the office and helps customers over the phone and Jamie helps create a lot of my content to drive traffic to my existing sites. Both are still learning their trade but it’s working well so far. I have big plans to involve them a lot more in the business in 2011 and I can’t wait to see how it turns out.

I’m also going to be adding Randy Smith to my team on a part time basis in 2011, some of you may know Randy as we go back a long way, he only lives down the road from me and we have been consulting over the last month or so and I have big plans to expand the business that involves Randy.

I have plans to do a lot more coaching in 2011 and if you have already checked out my survey you will have probably guessed this. My plans are to help a record number of people quit their jobs in 2011 and anyone who has taken my survey will be contacted in the near future. I aim to set tailor made programs and partner up with people, even on product creation, to help them guarantee their success in the Internet Marketing World. (I can’t say too much just now) This will involve me doing a lot more one on one stuff such as personal consultations and training. It will all depend on each individuals needs and abilities.

I have just held a 3 day firesale on eBay and the results have been fantastic with just under $9000 in sales generated, and this was with no affiliates on board. For me holding a firesale on eBay is a fantastic way to generate extra revenue and here’s why.

Side note! If you don’t know what a firesale is in the Internet Marketing world it is basically a sale where you compile a collection of your existing products or resale rights/PLR products and sell them as a package at a reduced price offering incredible value.

Firstly, when you list anything on eBay the scarcity isn’t false so it works really well. I’m sure you have seen countless times sales pages that say the price is about to rise or the product will no longer be available only to find that after the deadline ends nothing happens. Using false scarcity or urgency tactics leaves a very bitter taste with any customer and it’s unlikely they will buy from you again. It also makes this tactic less effective as most people see it as false marketing or simply ignore the urgency claims.

However, when you use this tactic on eBay it can have an incredible effect as the countdown timer on eBay can’t be tampered with. This can have an incredible affect on sales as the auction ends. Especially if you have a limited amount of items for sale.

E.G. If you have 50 items for sale people can see this isn’t false and are more likely to buy, especially if you are selling a popular item that sells well. Once you get a few sales under your belt sales will pick up as people see time is running out.

The ‘me too’ effect also works brilliantly on eBay. When you start to make sales others see this and they feel they are missing out if they don’t buy. The beauty of eBay is all sales are recorded and are there for all to see. The more you sell the more people want to buy to be part of the in crowd.

One successful firesale can get you top rated seller status. That’s right, one firesale is all it takes to achieve eBay top rated seller status, if you sell other items on eBay this is an excellent way to boost your eBay credibility. Top rated sellers pay less in listing fees and are rated higher in searches and have the credibility that comes with having the top rated seller logo shown on their listings.

You can take advantage of eBay’s huge buyer traffic. Most people browsing eBay have their credit card in hand and are ready to spend. This is the best type of traffic you can have look at your offer.

You can easily upsell more products. When your product is delivered you can include even more items such as bonus CD’s or printed material that can promote more of your products or affiliate related offers.

So what’s the best way to hold a firesale for maximum effect?

First make the offer the best you can, compile your products and make the offer irresistible. Be sure to state the individual price of each product to paint a mental picture of the price in your prospects head. If you can mentally have your prospect add up thousands of dollars worth of products they will be ready to buy when they see your final price that shows massive savings.

After you have compiled your products add even more value. This could be additional services such as consultations, telephone support, additional training, interviews, etc. Again give each item a value so the prospect paints a mental value in their head.

Once you have your listing compiled you can run 2 types of auction. A timed auction that will expire after a certain amount of time, or you can set a certain amount of items for sale and let the auction run on a ‘good till cancelled’ basis till it sells out.

Good till cancelled auctions are better if you don’t have a way of driving additional traffic to the auctions, where timed auctions are more geared towards people who can drive traffic to get things rolling and tend to suit sellers who have a mailing list or have ways to drive traffic of their own to the auction, so if you don’t have a mailing list (BTW, you should have) go for the good till cancelled listing as the costs are low and you can set it and forget it. Just set your amount and let it run till you sell out.

Always offer free shipping and ship worldwide. Offering free shipping gets you a better seller rating and instills trust in any potential customer, shipping worldwide opens your auction to a worldwide audience. Also be sure to ship any sold items promptly and always within 48 hours.

Holding a firesale on eBay isn’t hard to do and if done right can bring in fantastic results while at the same time enhance your eBay reputation, so if holding a firesale on eBay isn’t something you have thought about in the past why not give it a try.
