Once again I’ve had a hectic week, as you may already know over the last week or so I’ve been promoting Killer Content, launched 2 new products and over the weekend it was my birthday, the hangover seemed to last 2 days, boy I’m getting old

I also attended Randy Smiths Northallerton meet up on Saturday. These are regular meet ups that Randy has ran for a few years now, he holds them every month or so and it was great to see so many faces from the online world in the flesh and also meet up with some old friends. The meet up was more of an informal affair  followed by a Q&A session and it worked great. Randy delivered some great content and as there were a few ‘experts’ in the room everyone benefited from the content delivered. The only problem was I was driving so having a cup of tea while watching others have a beer was not the best experience.

The best thing for me about attending the meet up was the fact I generated some great ideas for putting together a workshop of my own upstairs in my office. In fact I’ve ordered a projector kit and furniture today and I will be transforming what is essentially a storage room at the moment into full on meeting room. I’ll be holding the initial workshops in groups of 16 and let me assure you these workshops will be content packed and pitch free followed by a live Q&A and networking session.

As you may know this is something I’ve never done before so once again I am getting out of my comfort zone to do this. Sometimes you just have to get things done to move forward and this is a massive step for me.

However once I got started the nerves soon went and I actually had a lot of people congratulate me afterwards. I also remember it taking me about 2 years to put a picture of myself online and about 3 years before I recorded my first screencam video and even longer before holding my first webinar, now I host webinars almost every week for my coaching students. All of these hurdles had to be overcome before I could move forward and once they were it really wasn’t a problem.

Will I be nervous doing my first workshop? Yes! I’ll probably be shaking but once I do it I know I’ll be fine and who knows, once I get over this hurdle I may even speak at an event one day but for now I’ll settle with 16 determined individuals in the comfort of my own environment.

So if something is holding you back just push through it, once you do you will probably wonder what all the fuss was about…

Late in life in 2007 I qualified as a massage therapist. I started to look for ways to promote the service and came across an excellent online course. Looking back at my experience of buying this course I realise it followed a well established pattern of selling on the Internet. But I didn’t know it at the time.

The course consisted of great offline marketing strategies and one or two online strategies. It was the latter that really caught my attention. The idea of creating an income online was an attractive proposition. But this course was all about promoting a massage service. Although I could see there was potential in making money online, I didn’t have sufficient knowledge of how to go about it other than as a massage therapist.

After a great deal of money spent on trying to gain an understanding of how to sell on the Internet, I decided to put to good use skills I had acquired from my other offline experiences. In the past I had worked in customer services for an international car rental company and, for a number of years, in a similar position for a multi national financial institution. I therefore offered and was successful in establishing my services as a customer support assistant to Internet marketers.

This opportunity provided a great insight into Internet marketing generally and I was in a position to learn a great deal. But, with no disrespect to those marketers using my services, I very rarely see a product which provides a complete A to Z guide to creating an online business. Anyone familiar with the Internet Marketing niche will understand that very often you are still looking for advice from elsewhere in order to complete certain stages of the process.

Until that is, I came across John Thornhill’s One Month Mentor Program.

I had bought many of John’s products and was always impressed with the quality of his work and his apparent genuine desire to help others in their online efforts. And so I decided it was time to join his program.

What I have learnt by following the program are the little things that are often missed elsewhere; the tips and tricks picked up by watching someone as they go through the process. These have helped me to become much more efficient in my work, and being able to save time is as valuable as the learning experience.

I highly recommend the One Month Mentor Program in which John Thornhill shows a process that is so simple and yet so achievable that there is no reason why anyone shouldn’t enjoy their own success.

I have been making (some) money online now for a few years, however I have never attained the level of income that I have been aiming for and, to be brutally honest, the main reason for this is me. I fell into the same old trap that many people who start out in this business also do, I got side-tracked by every ‘next big thing’ and never consistently applied myself to building a sustainable business online.

I’ll also admit that I was looking for the easy way to make money online and of course with many product creators out there promising ‘push button’ success I found that I was quickly emptying my bank account on products that were never going to help me to create an income that I could rely on month to month.

The good news however is that during this period I began to realize that there were some marketers out there who were just as interested in helping others to succeed as they were in living the ‘Internet marketing’ lifestyle. They didn’t have the pictures of the million dollar houses or the garage full of supercars to show me; however what they did have were real addresses and telephone numbers which they weren’t afraid to share.

And, of course, they were also making enough money through their businesses to be doing it on a full time basis and living very comfortably while doing so. As I got smarter about how I needed to work on my own business I realized that if I spent more time actually working and listening to guys like John Thornhill I was far more likely to learn something useful than I ever would have been in the past by buying the next greatest product to come to market.

Incredibly it is already being promoted by affiliates even though I have not done a huge amount of additional work to advertise it myself so I am confident that once my own marketing efforts get some traction that the sales will start to ramp up.

Overall I must say I am really pleased I followed John’s program and I am already starting to map out my next product having had a number of good ideas during the creation of the first one. In this blog post I’m going to talk about Facebook pages and why you should have one, and I’m also going to give you a real world example to prove that Facebook ‘like’ pages is big business.

First of all lets look at some interesting and quite frankly unbelievable facts about Facebook.

• Facebook is the second most popular site on the Internet second only to Google and currently has over 600 Million active users. With 50% of those users logging in on any given day, that is 300 Million users per day on average.
• Facebook receives over 100 billion hits per day.
• Facebook has around 500 thousand new users joining every day.
• If Facebook was a country and its users were the population, it would be the 3rd most populated country in the world. To put that in perspective, the United States of America would be the 4th.
• More than 2.5 million websites have integrated with Facebook. Are you one of them? If you’re not you should be.

OK, So we now realize that there is the potential to receive massive amounts of traffic from Facebook, but how do we set things up to start receiving this traffic?

Simple! We set up a Facebook ‘like’ page. (Formerly and sometimes still called a fan page)

This is big business and most of the big companies already have Facebook pages, I’m sure you’ve seen a TV ad and at the end a Facebook page is advertised. So why are these big companies doing this? Simple! To connect with their audience.

Let’s use this page from Adidas Clothing as an example:

I can guarantee you right now that there is no way Adidas could have gained access to over 8 million people any other way for free other than creating a Facebook page. Sure offline they could have done it if they had invested a ton of money in doing so but on the flip side the investment would have to be continuous. Online and with Facebook Adidas has been able to successfully build up a ‘like’ page to up to 8,784,010 fans to date.

What’s even better is, anytime Adidas wants to get on the forefront of all their fans minds, all they need to do is update their Facebook status (comment on their own page), and that update will be able to be viewed by all 8.7 Million of their friends. Now imagine being able to harness such a power for yourself. I know, it’s scary isn’t it!

Now if you’re reasonably new to Facebook let me explain two things in a little more detail.

How Adidas have grown their page virally.

How Adidas now has access to every one of the fans on their fan page.

So How Did Adidas’ Page Grow to 8.7 Million Fans?

Well, it all happened using a part of Facebook that makes it the most viral network in the world. This feature is called the Facebook Newsfeed and everyone on Facebook has their own unique feed that is seen when they visit their Facebook homepage.

The newsfeed is a live compilation of all the activity that your Facebook friends are engaging in over Facebook. You can see all your friends posting on other friends pages, posting on their own page and joining events.

So if I were to see a friend or fan of mine had joined a page that caught my eye and then I decided that I would like to join the page then all of my friends would see that action in their newsfeeds and be able to join also, creating a viral snowball effect with every person who joins over Facebook.
This is a great way to build social proof for businesses and this is exactly how Adidas has grown to a stage that they have over 8.7 Million fans on their page.

So How Does Adidas Get Access To All Its Fans Over Facebook?

Well, in the same way that actions from other pages in my network get featured in my newsfeed, the same applies to pages that I am a fan of.
Every time Adidas posts a status update (comment on their page) then all 8,784,010 of their fans will have the opportunity to see the status update on their news feed.

Win, win for everybody, fans get their updates and Adidas reaches out to millions of targeted fans.

So What Does All This Mean For You?

Well, this basically means that if you want your business to grow, expand and get exposure to those outside of your main customer base, then the best action that you can take is to create a Facebook Page and start generating fans that can help you grow your business.

Each customer or person who ‘Likes’ your page will have that action of joining your business page featured for all of their friends to see. This will increase your businesses exposure and it will help provide your business with the essential social proof that comes along with a friend of someone’s recommending your business.

So What is a ‘Like’ Page?

A ‘Like’ Page, sometimes known as a ‘Fan’ Page, is a page that you can setup inside of your Facebook account that allows you to present your business to Facebook users, just like the Adidas example above. Unlike owning your own website there are a limited number of settings that accompany setting up a Facebook page, which means that there are a limited number of opportunities in a Facebook Like Page to make your own page. However the main purpose of your page is to get people to click the ‘like’ button to grow your page virally.

How do I Get People to Click The ‘Like’ Button on my Page?

What you need to do is offer an incentive to get people to ‘like’ your page, this is best done by offering a freebie, this is a little like offering something via a squeeze page. However, unlike the prospect having to enter their name and email to receive their gift all they have to do is click ‘like’, it’s this simple action what makes the whole process so effective.

I’ve spent lots of money attending seminars, workshops and buying eBooks. And I do run some eBay training myself twice a year to help beginners to set up their eBay business. I know how to identify between genuine information and B.S.
